University boards get new members
Governor replaces some, gives others another term
July 4, 2008
Gov. Steve Beshear made several appointments yesterday to governing boards at universities, including the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville. "I look forward to the leadership these individuals will provide to these universities and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System boards of regents and trustees," Beshear said in a statement. The appointments, which take effect immediately at the universities, include several replacements of existing board members, as well as reappointments.
For example, at U of L, the governor replaced Ulysses L. "Junior" Bridgeman and Grant Helm with Debbie Scoppechio, a Louisville advertising executive, and Brucie W. Moore, a Waverly attorney. He also reappointed board member Jonathan S. Blue, a Louisville business executive. At UK, Beshear replaced Billy Wilcoxson with Dr. Edward Britt Brockman of Louisville. C. Frank Shoop, a Lexington auto dealer, was reappointed to the UK board.
Other appointments include:
Anita Johnson, a Pikeville attorney, to the Eastern Kentucky University board of regents.
Phyllis M. Williams, a Louisville commercial accounts coordinator, to the Kentucky State University board of regents.
Cheryl U. Lewis, a Hyden attorney, to the Morehead State University board of regents.
A reappointment of Marilyn Reed Buchanon, a Grand Rivers private investor, to the Murray State board of regents.
Terry L. Mann, a Fort Thomas executive, to the Northern Kentucky University board of regents.
Marcia L. Roth, executive director of the Mary Byron Foundation in Louisville, to the Kentucky
Community and Technical College System board of regents. Roth's appointment is effective July 22. Each appointee will serve a six-year term.
The appointees were chosen from a list of nominees delivered to the governor by the bipartisan Postsecondary Education Nominating Committee.
