March 24, 2009 - Dr. Asim Piracha, a cornea trained, cataract and lasik surgery specialist, has officially begun his term as the President of the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES). Dr. Piracha says he “hopes to carry on the great tradition of ABES” during his presidency. The organization upholds the highest quality standards in ophthalmic surgical care through certification programs and training programs.
In his role as President, Dr. Piracha will work with university residency programs to help train and prepare ophthalmology residents to become more skilled surgeons. A regular lecturer at national conferences, Dr. Piracha has helped train surgeons worldwide on advanced surgical equipment such as the IntraLase and Allegretto Wave laser. ABES has previously recognized Dr. Piracha as one of two Outstanding Cataract Surgeons in the nation and has served as the groups treasurer.
Besides practicing in Louisville, New Albany, Ind., and Jeffersonville, Ind., Dr. Piracha teaches residents at the University of Louisville Hospital and was recently named to the esteemed “40 Under 40” list by Business First of Louisville. Dr. Piracha is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as being a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
